Sacrilegious Genesis

A linguistic reinterpretation of the Book of Genesis. Not a commentary on what it means — a careful examination of what the Hebrew actually says, word by word, root by root.

The project

It started with a single entry in Strong’s Concordance. One Hebrew root word that didn’t match its English translation. That discrepancy became a thread, and the thread became months of work tracing every word in Genesis back to its original form.

The result is a complete reinterpretation of Genesis 1-3 (with Thomas material in progress), published alongside an interactive web explorer that lets readers examine every word, every root, every pattern for themselves. The transparency is the point — you don’t have to take my word for it. You can check.

The explorer

A full-stack web application built with React, rendering every verse with interlinked Hebrew roots, English glosses, and interpretive notes. Readers can trace linguistic patterns across chapters and see how a single root word creates meaning that traditional translations flatten.

Why it matters

This project isn’t theology. It’s linguistics applied to a text that most people only encounter in translation. The patterns visible in Hebrew — the wordplay, the structural echoes, the deliberate ambiguity — disappear in English. This project makes them visible again.
